Why I Didn't Want to Start a Bootcamp

Updated: Jul 23, 2019

Before we begin, I just want to clarify that I'm so happy that we started a bootcamp at CrossFit Auburndale.

One of my goals at CrossFit Auburndale has always been to help our clients to the best of our capabilities. We aim to help our clients lose weight, feel better when they wake up every morning, have fun when they step foot in the gym, and live long, healthy lives.

I believe that back squatting, performing snatches and pull ups, and gymnastics progressions are the best way to achieve those goals.

But let us be honest, those things can be intimidating. Barbells are awkward, heavy, and make loud sounds when they're dropped. Seeing "muscle up" in the WOD is scary if you can't do them.

I've spent the last five years having to vindicate that anyone can do CrossFit and how its infinitely scalable yet I still run into people daily who are worried about it being too challenging or getting injured.

It wasn't until a meeting with Jeff Crawford that I had the bootcamp epiphany. Jeff owns Maverick CrossFit in Melbourne, Fl. Maverick is one of the best gyms I've ever visited.

Jeff is also fighting the good fight and maintains that snatches and pull ups are the best way to stave off the nursing home and Type II diabetes. He also realizes that the depth of people he can help his limited due to the intimidation factor. Running a bootcamp allows us to service more clients at once while still offering the quality experience that we're used to.

For us to help the most amount of people we have to be more diverse. CrossFit is one of the awesome tools that we use to help people lose weight, get stronger, and feel better but it is just one tool in our repertoire.

Our new bootcamp still incorporates functional movements and high intensity workouts without the steep learning curve of our traditional CrossFit classes. Our bootcamp classes will still challenge you but will allow you to focus more on working hard and less on if you're snatching correctly every time.

Our bootcamp is offered Mondays Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5am and 7:30pm. For more information click here!
